SPEAKER SYNOPSIS
00:00 - 00:00 Intro Why we need free software Deutsch Available 2 x 20 m Richard Albrecht   some information about me, at Linuxtage in Graz/Austria: http://www.linuxtage.at/ubuntu/ At bottom is a link to my page in Ottbrunn. At the software freedom day i will restrict my short talk to the first part, some ideas, why we need free software. -->
00:00 - 00:00 Intro Pending. Approx ~Linux Intros~ Deutsch Available 2 x 20 m Richard Albrecht   About Ubuntu as a free software example and why we should use it. The title and the synopsis are not yet ready. It will be a mixture of the introductions of the lectures I hold at different Linux meetings. It will ready at tuesday evening. see here: http://www.linuxtage.at/ubuntu/ and http://www.lug-ottobrunn.de/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/CookBooks/Linuxeinstieg (PDFs are here) Preferred language will be German, but explanations can be given in English. At the exhibition I will show an Ubuntu computer with a secure network, based on SSH. SSH is well known to a linux expert, but for a newbie it is a new experience. -->
00:00 - 00:00 Intro Free Software in Uganda Deutsch ? Available <= 15 m Janosch Maier   some impressions, how I have seen the computer world while I have been in Uganda Es ist nichts großes, sondern einfach ein paar Eindrücke, wie ich die Computer Welt in Uganda erlebt habe. Ich bin mir sicher, dass die 15 Minuten für mich ausreichen. -->

00:00 - 00:00 Tech Git Ein- und Umsteiger
Git is a source code control system. pkg-descr
00:00 - 00:00 Tech z.B.: / available 1 or perhaps more of

00:00 - 00:00 Tech The Linux Kernel in 15 Minutes Deutsch Acceoted 15 m Nils Magnus
00:00 - 00:00 Intro Free software is not FREE English Available 15 m Amir H. Moin   I'd like to talk about the very basic concepts of Free/Libre Open Source Software (FLOSS). -->
00:00 - 00:00 Tech 2 talks: CouchDB, Html5, JonDo LANGUAGE ? Available 2 x ? m Elmar Schraml   Who am I? Professional software developer since 2006 (mostly enterprise java), linux user since 2000 (not a purist, though, I'm a closet apple fanboy), geek for life :-) Topics I could offer: - - - CouchDB One of the more prominent open-source members of the NoSQL movement of those newfangled document databases. If MySQL was built FOR the web, CouchDB is built OF the web - Http-REST is the native API, JSON the native data format. Interesting from a software freedom point of view: applications built on top of couchdb are just data, can be replicated and modified in a P2P-model. I've played with CouchDB for a good while now, and hope to present enough about it to whet your appetite. - - - JonDo JonDo was founded under the name Java Anon Proxy as a research project to develop a secure, trustworthy open-source system for unlimited and anonymous interent usage. I'd say it's the best technology of its kind currently out there (if you're familiar with Tor: it's just like Tor, except it's safe...). I did my Master's thesis with the founder of the project as well as the current lead developer, and was a founding emplolyee of JonDos, the company currently sponsoring its development. I'd like to raise awareness about the need for online privacy, and present what JonDo is and how to use it. -->
00:00 - 00:00 Intro The meaning of Freedom Deutsch ? Sought <= 20 m Speaker Sought.   What means the Term Free Software? Is there a difference to Freeware? Why is Freedom important? What are a few important Licenses and how do they differ? Does Free Software mandatorily mean that you don't have to pay money? Does Free SOftware mandatorily mean that you aren't allowed to make money with it? -->
00:00 - 00:00 Intro History of Linux and Free Software Deutsch ? Requested < 20 m Anika Kehrer, Journalist (TBC)   How come that Software was originally free of charge and why did that change? Why did people like RMS formalize Freedom? What was the objective for BSDers and Linuxers to start their projects? What are important milestones (major releases)? Name a few key people and their achievements. When did the term Open Source turn up? Are there other important projects not directly related to operating systems that leveraged the idea of Free Software (like Open Office or Mozilla). -->
00:00 - 00:00 Intro Distributions: There are so many to pick from Deutsch ? Sought <= 20 m Speaker Sought.   What is the difference between an OS kernel and a distribution, as developers routinely assign the same name to them (BSD, Linux). Drop names of typical, first step distributions (say, Ubuntu, Debian, Open Suse, Free BSD, Gentoo, Knoppix). Which one is suitable for which task? -->
00:00 - 00:00 Intro The Participation Principle Deutsch ? Suggested <= 20 m Florian Effenberger (TBC)   Synopsis: Free Software is different from proprietary software as everybody is free to participate and contribute, even if you are not a computer professional. Also, there are lots of user groups, forums, mailing lists, wikis, and other forms of support, newcomers can rely on. How does this community work? -->
00:00 - 00:00 Intro Linux in Public Administraion: Limux Deutsch ? Suggested <= 20 m Florian Schießl, Landeshaupstadt München (TBC)   Synopsis: Free software has proved that is capable to serve also mission critical requirements. One example the public administration of Landeshaupstadt München, which decided several years ago to go for an open source strategy. However, there are also a few obstacle to circumnavigate. -->
